Failure 3 — Discharge blindness on conditions subsequent

The candidate correctly reads that an obligation is active but misses that a condition subsequent has already discharged it. The passage states "the warranty remains in effect until the product is modified," and a later line notes the product was modified — the warranty is discharged, but the candidate answers that it is still in force. The fix is to treat every "until" and "unless and until" as a live switch and to scan forward for whether the trigger event has occurred in the text.

Failure 4 — Double-condition collapse

Some clauses stack a precedent and a subsequent — "upon delivery and until acceptance." The obligation switches on at delivery and off at acceptance, defining a window. The candidate collapses the two into a single condition and loses the window. The fix is to map two separate arrows, one on and one off, and to check whether the question asks about a point inside or outside the window.

Reading a condition clause correctly is a three-step mechanical routine, not an act of interpretation:

  1. Find the obligation verb. Locate the "shall," "will," "must," or "is required to" that names the duty in question.
